We bought this for our grandson's 8th birthday. He's really into science and likes to build things a la Legos so this was a great combination for him.

This was a gift for my grandson who is 9. He has spend many hours working with the Physics Workshop. He absolutely loves it and it seems to be challenging for him but not frustrating.

My 9 year old grandson loves this. There are so many projects and all he has to do is look at a picture and he can build the item. This was a great purchase.

I bought this for my grandson but was very disappointed. The instructions for the first project he picked were so inadequate - no listing of the items needed, pictures so poor the various connectors could not be easily identified, and the sequence of assembly poorly shown. I plan to return it after I get home (?1/8/09) where the paperwork is.

This is a great educational toy! It is easy to build the various machines and devices and everyone so far has resulted in a great lesson in mechanics. My son build the cog railway car and had a great time seeing just how steep of a slope it could climb. When he first tried it he said 'so that's how those trains get up the moutain!'

Grandpa had to help our eight year old grandson with this workshopand this grandson is no slouch! Thus the ages of the workshop should probably be 10 and up. Also, the gear box is quite delicate; it broke the first day.

IT WAS A GREAT BIRTHDAY PRESENT.

This is another winner if you have a child who likes to build. Our 9 year old grandson has alot of fun making things from his imagination or following the directions provided. The only negative thing is that the 'propellers' shown in the magazine were made of heavy paper and not plastic as they looked in the picture.

Physics Workshop was a Christmas gift for our DGS. Box was opened with a hoop and hollow of satisfaction. Yes, this is a great gift and DGS has had hours of fun with the workshop while learning about physics. I agree this does deserve the Parents Choice Award and is a sure thing as a gift with no disappointment! Its a winner!!!!

My eight year old loves this. We have had a great time doing some of the projects together and he also does some of them by himself. The directions could be better but if you are mechanically inclined you can get the projects built. I would buy it again.

My 7 year old son loves this! He picked it out of the catalog himself and has spent many hours building with it. Some things are a little hard for him to build (thus the ages 8 and up labeling, I guess) but there are many things that he is able to build himself, and others he can build with help. The only small issue with it is that the small connecting pieces sometimes break when taking apart the contraptions he's built.

I ordered this set expecting rudimentary experiments and projects that had something to do with physics principles. What I find is a very clever and detailed set of components that can be assembled into a wide range of projects that explore a range of physics principles. The set is a wonder from an engineering perspective. I have a BA in physics myself, and I am impressed with the careful thought that has gone into both the design of the components and into the instruction manual that guides exploration.

My son is big time into Lego's and he's enjoyed putting together the projects so far. There's no real step by step guide to putting things together so he's had to think about how to do it first (which is kind of nice).
The manual that comes with it is nicely designed. My son bypassed the reading material to get to the next experiment where he could build something new.
I would say that the actual physics learned is small unless you, as a parent, really go through it with your kid. Is it fun? Reasonably so.

My 7-year old boy loves it. He even used the windmill model as part of his project, did his book report presentation in school.
Besides following the pictures, he added something more to his model, to show extra info about windmills.
The parts are fairly easy to attach and detach. He only needs my help to detach one kind of screw.
